Good Deal, But Expect High Surcharges
This promotion has the potential to be an excellent deal in terms of the number of Avios required for a ticket, but expect the surcharges to be quite high, as is the norm with British Airways.
Just to give some examples, looking at off-peak awards from Washington to London, you can fly economy for 6,500 Avios plus $203.70…

Or you can fly premium economy for 13,000 Avios plus $253.70…

Or you can fly business class for 45,000 Avios plus $628.70.

There will be some variance when it comes to the carrier imposed surcharges, taxes, and fees:
- You’ll pay the highest carrier imposed surcharges for flights originating in North America, while they’re lower when originating in Europe
- If departing the UK you’ll pay the hefty UK APD
Save On Surcharges With The BA Credit Card
If you have the British Airways Visa Signature® Card then you can potentially save on the carrier imposed surcharges you’d be paying on award tickets. The card offers up to $600 per year in statement credits. You can earn up to three statement credits, as follows:
- Earn a $100 statement credit for an economy or premium economy booking
- Earn a $200 statement credit for a business class or first class booking
There are valid for transatlantic flights originating in the US, and the credit should post within 45 days. So earning a $100-200 statement credit for these bookings potentially makes this an even better deal.
Here’s everything you need to know about the British Airways Visa.

How To Earn British Airways Avios
British Airways Executive Club is transfer partners with Amex Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards, so you can transfer over points from those programs at a 1:1 ratio. On top of that, the British Airways Visa Signature® Card is a great way to earn Avios.
Bottom Line
This is a great promotion to save 10-50% off British Airways Avios award tickets over the next several months. There’s a fairly long booking and travel window, and the savings are substantial, especially for economy and premium economy.
If you can combine this with a BA Visa statement credit, the deal gets all the better.
Anyone plan to take advantage of this British Airways Avios award sale promotion?
