One of the best perks of The Platinum Card® from American Express (review) and The Business Platinum® Card from American Express (review) is access to Centurion Lounges. These lounges are at airports, and are for the most part significantly better than what’s offered by US airlines, as the lounges have complimentary cocktails, hot food, and a couple of them even have spas.
With the US Open right around the corner, Amex is bringing back a concept that they first introduced last year — Amex will be operating a Centurion Suite at the 2019 US Open. It’s located within the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, and will be a great place to relax and recharge.
The Centurion Suite will be open from 12PM until 8PM on August 26 through September 4, 2019. It will be closed from September 5 through September 8, as matches will no longer take place in Louis Armstrong Stadium on those days.
As far as access restrictions go:
- Platinum cardmembers will be able to bring two guests, and will be allowed to visit for a two hour time period with no re-entry
- Centurion cardmembers will be able to bring two guests or immediate family, and will have no time limit on visits, and will be allowed re-entry
The Centurion Suite at the US Open will offer the following amenities:
- Complimentary premium snacks, small bites, and water
- One complimentary drink (beer, wine, cocktail or mocktail), with additional drinks available for purchase
- A preview of 1850, the speakeasy-inspired bar that will be featured inside the upcoming Centurion Lounge at JFK Terminal 4; cardmembers will be treated to an exclusive cocktail, “The Centurionside,” created by Jim Meehan, Head Mixologist of the Centurion Lounge Network
- Phone charging stations and dedicated wifi network
- Air conditioning, restrooms, and spacious seating
- Special card member takeaways including a travel cocktail kit and travel pouch
This year American Express has shared some pictures of the lounge, which looks nicer than I was expecting:

Obviously, this doesn’t have quite as many amenities as usual Centurion Lounges, though the reality is that it’s nice to get any place that has air conditioning at the US Open, let alone to get a free alcoholic drink, soft drinks, and even some food.
We see a lot of brands trying to interact with US Open fans, though this is definitely one of the more valuable opportunities. This even sounds a bit better than Chase’s lounge at the US Open.
If you’re going to the US Open this year, do you plan on checking out the Centurion Suite?
