As I wrote about yesterday, Delta and American Express have six excellent welcome bonuses being pulled today, which are among the best bonuses we’ve ever seen on Delta Amex cards.
I tend to be a bit of a procrastinator, so even though I wrote about these offers several times before, no one in my family had applied for cards as of yesterday afternoon. So last night we put in a few applications for these cards, and I figured I’d share the results.
Ford’s Delta Amex application
Ford applied for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express, which I consider to have the best bonus of all. The card is offering 80,000 bonus miles plus 5,000 MQMs after spending $6,000 within the first three months, plus a $100 statement credit after making a Delta purchase within the first three months.
Ford got instantly approved for the card. At a minimum the card’s 80,000 SkyMiles can be redeemed for $800 worth of travel on Delta. Then there’s the $100 statement credit, and long term this card may be worth the $195 annual fee (Rates & Fees) for the companion certificate.

My dad’s Delta Amex application
My dad applied for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card. The card is offering 75,000 bonus miles plus 5,000 MQMs after spending $3,000 within the first three months, plus a $100 statement credit after making a Delta purchase within the first three months.
My dad has a special incentive to apply for this card. He currently has 998,000+ lifetime miles with Delta.

If he gets approved and completed the minimum spend, he’ll become a million miler with Delta. So this credit card application won’t just earn him lots of miles, but will also earn him lifetime status with Delta, which is pretty awesome.
Unfortunately my dad didn’t get an instant approval, but rather got a pending decision. Hopefully it comes through!

My Delta Amex application
I decided to apply for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express. I figured I wouldn’t be approved, simply because I already have five Amex credit cards, and that seems to be their limit (this is only credit cards, and doesn’t include charge cards)
However, I figured it was worth a shot:
- Some report being able to get six Amex credit cards
- Typically if you’re denied for an Amex card for this reason, you’re denied before they even pull your credit, so there’s no downside to trying
After applying I received a “pending review” page, and was asked to call in.

Go figure they informed that I already had five cards, and asked me if I wanted to close down an existing one. I asked them to just cancel my application, since I value all five Amex cards I have, and get good use out of them.
Bottom line
I’m happy Ford got approved for his application. I hope my dad gets approved for his, as it would earn him million miler status with Delta. I’m not surprised I didn’t get approved due to the five card limit.
If you’ve been considering getting a Delta Amex but haven’t yet applied, you have just a couple of hours left to do so. In particular, consider the Gold Delta SkyMiles Card, Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card, Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card, or Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Card, which have the best bonuses.
