For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.
To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.
Amex frequently has promotions for hotel stays, which can save you money or earn you bonus points for stays you’d make anyway. They’ve just rolled out their latest such offer, which is one we’ve seen a couple of times in the past year.
There’s a new targeted Amex Offer for $60 back when you spend $300+ at Kimpton properties in the US. The offer is valid for stays at participating properties through September 30, 2019.
You need to book directly with Kimpton to take advantage of this. While it’s not explicitly stated, I’d assume booking through IHG works as well, since that’s considered a direct booking (typically what matters is that you’re not making a third party booking). Other IHG brands, including Holiday Inn and InterContinental, don’t qualify. There’s no requirement that the entire $300 be spent on one stay, so you should be able to earn the bonus based on cumulative spend over multiple stays.
Furthermore, what matters is that you’re billed during the promotion period (so in theory a prepaid stay for a future date could qualify, as long as it’s billed during the promotion period).
This promotion isn’t valid for purchases at Kimpton restaurants, purchases at kimptonstyle.com, or for IHG Rewards Club points purchases. Furthermore, gift card purchases are excluded.
Let me once again emphasize that this promotion is targeted, though it at least seems to be pretty widely targeted for the cards that I have.
Since you’re booking direct with Kimpton you can still earn IHG Rewards Club points for your booking to get even more value. You can even combine it with the “Free Nights Faster” promotion that IHG is offering at the moment.
Lastly, if you do stay at a Kimpton through September 2, 2019, make sure you provide the secret social password, which is “Off Duty.” This will get you a special surprise at check-in.
